Department of Psychology

Department of Psychology was established in 2013 under the headship of Ms. Ancella Roy. The department offers Under Graduate Programme- B.Sc Psychology (Model I) - 30 seats. The department has currently two faculties, Smt. Glarmina.P (HOD) and Ms.Akhila Mohammed Khaleel.


To be a nationally recognized leader in undergraduate education, where students and faculty establish close collaborations to learn the scientific principles of behaviour and mental processes, to make significant contributions to the science and practice of psychology, and to produce professionals who serve the local, national and global communities.


To achieve excellence in the teaching of undergraduate students, the generation and sharing of knowledge through teaching and mentoring, and to apply knowledge through outreach and service, tackling social and psychological issues.

The specific mission is to provide students, highest quality learning opportunities, with an understanding of a) the mental structures and processes that underlie individual human experience and behaviour, b) the scientific methodologies by which such a knowledge base is required, c) the critical and divergent thinking skills necessary to evaluate scientific and popular claims concerning behaviour and d) the application of scientific psychological principles to personal and social issues.

Department Activities

To raise awareness across the world and in the community about the issues surrounding HIV and AIDS, on WORLD AIDS DAY, Department of Psychology in association with NSS,NCC, Drama club of MES College, initiated and conducted rally and street play in various schools and streets in Perumbavoor subdistrict.
CHILDREN'S DAY Celebrations
As part of celebrating CHILDREN'S DAY, Students and faculty shared their joy with MES Orphanage children by giving them, toys, sports materials and study materials. Children and students presented cultural programmes at the Orphanage centre.
In connection with WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY, Department organised a one day seminar on the topic 'Mental health among youths' and the students played a tablo enacting various mental disorders with the message to stop segregation and to bring the mentally ill to the main stream of the society.
Department in association with Kerala Field Publicity Office and Anti addiction club, MES College, conducted a comprehensive awareness programme on 'Ill effects of drug abuse and addiction among youths'.
