The University Grants Commission (UGC) has launched a scheme on skills development based higher education as part of college/university education, leading to Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc.) Degree with multiple exits such as Certificate/Diploma/Advanced Diploma under the NSQF(National skill Qualifications framework). The B.Voc programme is focused on universities and colleges providing undergraduate studies which would also incorporate specific job roles along with broad based general education. This would enable the graduates completing B.Voc to make a meaningful participation in accelerating India’s economy by gaining appropriate employment, becoming entrepreneurs and creating appropriate knowledge.

With the grant from the UGC, MES College Marampally started the Department of Vocational studies in 2014 with two B.Voc degrees. Following the success of these two courses, The UGC granted three additional vocational courses in 2018. Thus the Department of Industrial Instrumentation and Automation came into existence in November 2018. The department offers a B.Voc degree in Industrial Instrumentation and Automation. Adhering to the concept of B.Voc degree as conceived by the UGC, the department strives to equip students to fill the skill gap in the Instrumentation and Automation Industry. Apart from skill development, the department also caters to the holistic development of students. Various curricular, co curricular, technical and social extension,and eco friendly activities are carried out by the department to enable this.

The department also offers consultancy service to the public.
