Equal Opportunity Cell

The college has established an Equal Opportunity Cell to support and advise students from marginalized sections, including Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBCs), minority communities, etc., who are pursuing various academic programs at the college.

Objective

To ensure the efficient implementation of policies and programs benefiting marginalized communities, offering comprehensive guidance and counselling in academic, financial, social, and other pertinent areas, and fostering diversity across the campus community.

Functions

  1. To ensure equity and equal opportunity to the community at large in the college and bring about social inclusion:
    • This function emphasizes the institution’s commitment to providing fair and equal opportunities for all members of its community. It aims to remove barriers that may prevent individuals from diverse backgrounds from fully participating and benefiting from the college experience. Social inclusion here refers to creating an environment where everyone feels they belong and have equal access to resources and opportunities.
  2. To enhance the diversity among the students, teaching and non-teaching staff population and at the same time eliminate the perception of discrimination:
    • This function focuses on increasing diversity within the college community, including students, faculty, and staff. It aims to have representation from various social, cultural, and demographic backgrounds. Additionally, it addresses eliminating any perception or reality of discrimination based on these backgrounds, fostering an environment of respect and inclusivity.
  3. To create a socially congenial atmosphere for academic interaction and for the growth of healthy interpersonal relationships among the students coming from various social backgrounds:
    • Here, the focus is on fostering a positive social atmosphere conducive to academic interactions and the development of healthy relationships among students from diverse social backgrounds. It aims to create an environment where students can learn from each other’s perspectives and experiences, promoting mutual understanding and respect.
  4. To make efforts to sensitize the academic community regarding the problems associated with social exclusion as well as aspirations of the marginalized communities:
    • This function highlights the institution’s role in raising awareness among its academic community (students, faculty, and staff) about issues related to social exclusion and the aspirations of marginalized communities. It involves education, dialogue, and advocacy to address systemic barriers and ensure that marginalized voices are heard and respected within the college community.

These functions collectively outline a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) within the college environment. They reflect an institutional strategy to create a welcoming and supportive community where all individuals, regardless of background, can thrive academically and socially.
